Pancreatic Lipase (cPL / fPL)

Checks for pancreatitis, a common cause of vomiting and belly pain.

About this test

Measures the lipase made only by the pancreas, with a separate test for dogs (cPL) and for cats (fPL). It is the most useful blood test when pancreatitis is suspected: vomiting, a painful belly or refusing food. In cats the signs are often only tiredness and not eating.

Pancreas-specific lipase (cPL in dogs, fPL in cats)

Good to know

Miniature Schnauzers, and dogs with high blood fats, are especially prone to pancreatitis.
