Leptospirosis Test (PCR)

Checks for leptospirosis, a monsoon infection that harms the kidneys and liver.

About this test

Leptospirosis spreads through water and soil contaminated by rat urine, and peaks in India during and after the monsoon. It can damage the kidneys and liver, and it can pass to people. This test looks for the bacteria's DNA, which works best in the first week or so of illness.

Good to know

Wear gloves when cleaning up after a dog with suspected leptospirosis: it can infect people.
A yearly leptospirosis vaccination is the best protection.
